Educators in each elementary school will receive professional coaching and reading intervention training. This work will promote collaborative practices that strengthen the ability of Arlington educators within the special and general education settings to work together to differentiate the learning objectives for all of Arlington’s diverse learners in the area of reading.
Educators will learn a variety of ways to screen students in reading in order to target individual learning needs and individualize learning objectives. The goal of the training is to narrow the achievement gap between the students who are currently succeeding with our academic programming and those who may need a different approach in order to make sufficient progress during the course of a school year in order to become proficient and independent readers. This training is being provided by Dr. Melissa Orkin of Tufts University.
